Regular Workshops are held to keep Parish Groups and Teams up to date in terms of training and ensure that prayer and Scripture remain at the heart of all ministry and work within the parish.

Talks are arranged at intervals throughout the year and aim to focus the attention of the parish on key areas of faith and life.

Prayer and Scripture are central to parish life. In recent years St. Brigid’s has hosted a variety of Prayer Experiences such as Soul Journey, Pray for May, Lenten Prayer and Guided Prayer.

Each Lent and Advent the people of the parish are invited to take part in a Reconciliation Service where as a community they come to pray and ask for forgiveness.

There are many occasions and Events to be celebrated in St. Brigids.

St. Brigids promotes the notion of pilgrimage and at least once a year the people of the parish are invited to journey to a significant place of prayer.

During Lent the people of the parish were invited to undertake the challenge to “Make Lent Count”. This involved taking 5 minutes each day to pray a short prayer and to ponder a challenging quote. It was suggested that in the course of the week we carry out at least one Christian act. Each weekend at the parish Masses we could avail of a leaflet to help us focus on the week ahead.

Our Bereavement Team prepared and hosted a very moving Service of Prayer in March for “Those Who Have Died before Their Time”.

During Advent Deirdre Ní Chinneide was invited back to lead us once again in a Celtic style Reflective Prayer Service. Set in an atmosphere of candlelight this hour of prayer set the appropriate tone for a meaningful celebration of Christmas.

A specially prepared Advent Calendar was made available to those attending Mass during the Advent period, offering daily appropriate Scripture Quotes to ponder.

Our Sponsored Walk for Charity this year, was held to enable the Guihen family finance the care needed for their twin boys Shay and Finn, who were born with Pfeiffer Syndrome. We had a wonderful turn-out on what was a beautiful sunny day and raised €14,000 for the family who, joined us on our walk through Merlin Woods.

During Lent the parish hosted a prayerful journey through the Public Life and Ministry of Jesus as a way of preparing for the journey of Holy Week as Jesus faced the cross.

Our Lenten Walk, on what was a beautiful spring day, raised funds for the Jack & Jill Foundation. The cheque for almost €5,000 was presented to Jonathon Irwin, co-founder of the foundation, following an inspiring talk later that week.

The Holy Week Ceremonies were well attended and the very noticeable participation of those present, through prayer and song, made the week a moving experience for everyone.

During Advent Deirdre Ni Chinnéide led us in an evening of prayer and reflection Waiting with Wonder”. The hauntingly beautiful music and song complemented appropriate scripture passages and evocative poetry. It was the perfect preparation for the very important feast of the Birth of Jesus.
